La difficile situazione di emergenza che stiamo vivendo non risparmia nessuno, nemmeno le comunità meno fortunate: noi di Blu Spring ci siamo chiesti come sostenerle. Le condizioni in cui vive la maggior parte della popolazione Zambiana non permette di attenersi alle misure di igiene e le distanze sociali preventive contro la diffusione del COVID-19. Tante abitazioni vengono condivise da più persone e sono affollate e nella maggior parte dei casi non sono fornite di acqua corrente.
Abbiamo quindi deciso di lanciare una raccolta fondi per sostenere la produzione di mascherine chirurgiche e la distribuzione di disinfettante e sapone. Due misure che, combinate fra loro, aiutano a rallentare il contagio e la diffusione del virus COVID-19 come suggerito dal WHO.
Speriamo che questo possa contribuire a rallentare la diffusione del coronavirus nelle comunità che già giornalmente affrontano difficoltà come la fame e lottano con malattie come l’HIV, la tubercolosi e la malaria.
Le mascherine vengono prodotte e cucite a mano dal gruppo zambiano ZACD (Zambian Association for Children with Disabilities) con la quale lavoriamo in stretto contatto da parecchi anni.

COVID-19 Relief Action
Considering the difficult times that we are all currently facing: here at Blu Spring we started looking at the possibility of a plan of action to help slow down the spread of the virus as well as support the affected communities in Zambia. Most of the living conditions of the population in Zambia makes it very difficult, if not impossible to conform to the suggested hygiene and social distancing guidelines proposed by WHO. In fact, most families share the living arrangements with the whole extended family, live in tight packed compounds and most households do not have a running water supply.
We have thus decided to set up a fundraiser to support the production of surgical masks and the distribution of sanitiser and/or soap. Two simple measures, which as proposed by the World Health Organisations, slow down help the spread and transmission of the coronavirus.
We hope that through the following support we help slow down the spread and transmissions in these communities which already in their daily life struggle with challenges such as hunger and the fight to illnesses and diseases like AIDS, TB and malaria.
The masks are currently being produced in Lusaka (capital of Zambia) by the ZACD - Zambian Association for Children with Disabilities - with whom we have collaborated intensely in the past few years.
A donation of CHF 20 would cover: The materials and the production of the masks The purchase of sanitiser and/or soap The delivery to the communities in need.

Close to 500 masks have so far been produced by the amazing team at the ZACD. In the upcoming weeks the delivery of the masks and hygiene packs will take place to fight the spread and transmission of COVID-19 in Zambia.
