Our story

Starting with a dream

Since 2017, Blu Spring's mission has been clear: to uplift and support children with disabilities, granting them the chance to lead fulfilling lives. Our story began in 2014 with Marco Kerkhof, a skilled physiotherapist from Switzerland, who volunteered at the Kasisi Children’s Home near Lusaka, Zambia. This refuge offers shelter to orphans, street children, abused children, and those with disabilities, providing them a secure and loving environment. Marco's dedication led to the establishment of a physical therapy room, ensuring ongoing care for the children with physical challenges even after his departure.

After several more visits, the biggest challenge remained finding a suitable children’s wheelchair that would be able to provide good positioning and support. In collaboration with Wheelchairs for Kids, an Australian non-profit organization, we procured adaptable and customizable wheelchairs, transforming the lives of these children. With the support of many donors, we've already transported and fitted 1360 wheelchairs, distributing them to children who needed them the most. This, in turn, has allowed caregivers to secure stable employment beyond the home, creating a cascade of positive effects stemming from this modest initiative.
